i am not very impressed by covers. but this is the one time i am.

though the bearded guy is pretty much a waste in the band.

Lyrics:

Now and then I think of when we were together
Like when you said you felt so happy you could die
I told myself that you were right for me
But felt so lonely in your company
But that was love and it’s an ache I still remember

You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness
Like resignation to the end
Always the end
So when we found that we could not make sense
Well you said that we would still be friends
But I’ll admit that I was glad that it was over

But you didn’t have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened
And that we were nothing
And I don’t even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger
And that feels so rough
No you didn’t have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records
And then change your number
I guess that I don’t need that though
Now you’re just somebody that I used to know
Now you’re just somebody that I used to know
Now you’re just somebody that I used to know

Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over
But had me believing it was always something that I’d done
But I don’t wanna live that way
Reading into every word you say
You said that you could let it go
And I wouldn’t catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know

But you didn’t have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened
And that we were nothing
And I don’t even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger
And that feels so rough
No you didn’t have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records
And then change your number
I guess that I don’t need that though
Now you’re just somebody that I used to know

Somebody
I used to know
Now you’re just somebody that I used to know
Somebody
I used to know
Now you’re just somebody that I used to know
I used to know
That I used to know
I used to know
Somebody

Bruce Springsteen-We Take Care Of Our Own

Nothing needs to be said about this man. Nothing at all.

His latest single from the new album Wrecking Ball.

Lyrics:

I’ve been knockin’ on the door that holds the throne

I’ve been lookin’ for the map that leads me home

I’ve been stumblin’ on good hearts turned to stone

The road of good intentions has gone dry as a bone

We take care of our own

We take care of our own

Wherever this flag’s flown

We take care of our own

From Chicago to New Orleans, from the muscle to the bone

From the shotgun shack to the Superdome

There ain’t no help

The cavalry stayed home

There ain’t no-one hearing the bugle blown

We take care of our own

We take care of our own

Wherever this flag’s flown

We take care of our own

Where the eyes, the eyes with the will to see

Where the hearts

That run over with mercy

Where’s the luck

That has not forsaken me

Where’s the work

That set my hands, my soul free

Where’s the spirit

That’ll reign, reign over me

Where’s the promise

From sea to shining sea

Where’s the promise

From sea to shining sea

Wherever this flag is flown

Wherever this flag is flown

Wherever this flag is flown

We take care of our own

We take care of our own

Wherever this flag’s flown

We take care of our own

We take care of our own

We take care of our own

Wherever this flag’s flown

We take care of our own

Bedouin Soundclash- Brutal Hearts

I love the reggae meets mod urban sounds. Plus this song has this undeniable sexy feel to it. And also, one of the best songs about casual sex I have ever come across.

Lyrics:

Are you the Brutal Heart?
Are you the Brutal Heart that I’ve been looking for?
Cause if you’re looking for love, you can look for that door.

Hearts.
Hearts that break the night in two.
And arms that can’t hold you that true.

So use me
Use me

I don’t mind at all.
I don’t mind that you only call me when you want.
And Im just glad you want me at all.

Hearts.
And hearts that break the night in two.
And arms that can’t hold you that true.

So use me
Use me

So are we Brutal Hearts?
Are we Brutal Hearts that break the night in two?
Cause I just want this night with you.

Well I don’t like the man
I don’t like the man that I am.
But I just want this night with you.
Well then lets take this night from black to blue.
Well then lets take this night from black to blue.

Use me
Use me

Yasushi Yoshida- Staircase

I love this man. For some strange reason he reminds me of Murakami. Not too many people I interact with know anything about Murakami apart from the fact that he is called Murakami. They don’t even know his first name. It’s a complete and utter shame. Some men, like M were born to be read.

I love what Mr. Y does with the keys and the strings here. This man was born to play. And to be heard.

Blur-Song 2

English bands, I like. It has nothing to do with the accent. It hardly helps unless you are watching an interview. But Damon Albarn. Is hot. And has *the* accent.

Here’s the song from Starship Troopers, Charlie’s Angels, The Simpsons and South Park. And more recently seen in The Wire.

I bloody hate this song. It is annoying. And it just sticks to you like it’s nobody’s business. And then you end up playing it on loop. Gah.

Lyrics:

Note: Please insert the Yeahs and the Woohoos wherever necessary.

I got my head checked
By a jumbo jet
It wasn’t easy
But nothing is,
No -

WOOHOO!
When I feel heavy metal WOOHOO!
And I’m pins and I’m needles WOOHOO!
Well I lie and I’m easy
All of the time but I’m never sure why I need you
Pleased to meet you!

I got my head done
When I was young
It’s not my problem
It’s not my - problem -

WOOHOO!
When I feel heavy metal WOOHOO!
And I’m pins and I’m needles WOOHOO!
Well I lie and I’m easy
All of the time but I’m never sure why I need you
Pleased to meet you!

Smog- Rock Bottom Riser

Bill Callhan is one of the most underrated singers of all time.Enough said.

Lyrics:

I love my mother
I love my father
I love my sisters, too.
I bought this guitar
To pledge my love
To pledge my love to you.

I am a rock bottom riser
And I owe it all to you
I am a rock bottom riser
And I owe it all to you

I saw a gold ring
At the bottom of the river
Glinting at my foolish heart
So my foolish heart
Had to go diving
Diving, diving, diving
Into the murk

And from the bottom of the river
I looked up for the sun
Which had shattered in the water
And pieces were rained down
Like gold rings
That pa*sed through my hands
As I thrashed and I grabbed
I started rising, rising, rising

I left my mother
I left my father
I left my sisters, too
I left them standing on the banks
And they pulled me out
Of this mighty, mighty, mighty river

I am a rock bottom riser
And I owe it all to you
I am a rock bottom riser
And I owe it all to you

I love my mother
I love my father
I love my sisters, too.
I bought this guitar
To pledge my love
To pledge my love to you

Kings of Leon- The Bucket

I am pretty confused about whether to like this band or to dislike it. Primarily because they’re all American. And after a while they do tend to get rather insufferable.

The reason why I’m posting this song is because I had a rather strange dream where this was playing on loop. Once you hear a song on loop, in a dream or otherwise, it tends to grow on you. And no matter how terrible the song it, it takes quite an effort to flush it out of the mind.

Identity crisis. Are two words that come to my mind when I listen to this song. And I love Caleb Followill’s voice. The awful Southern twang is bloody sexy through the whole of Aha Shake Heartbreak, which otherwise is not such a great album. And the only Kings of Leon album that I have managed to get myself to hear. Possibly because of this one song. My favourite Kings of Leon song of all time.

Lyrics:

I’ll be the one to show you the way
You’ll be the one to always complain
Three in the morning come-a bang bang bang
All out of fags and I just can’t wait
Cancel the thing that I said I’d do
I don’t feel comfortable talkin’ to you
‘Less you got the zipper fixed on my shoe
Then I’ll be in the lobby drinking for two

Eighteen
Balding
Star
Golden
Falling
Hard*

Look at the shakies
What’s with the blush?
Fresh off the plane in my fuzzy rush
Everyone’s gathered to idolize me
I hate the way you talk your Japanese scream
It’s been too long since I left the shed
You kick the bucket and I’ll swing my legs
Always remember the pact that we made
Too young to die but old isn’t great

Eighteen
Balding
Star
Golden
Falling
Hard*

I’m-a gonna show the way
I’m-a gonna show the way
I’m-a gonna show the way

Eighteen
Balding

Nouvelle Vague-Dance With Me

A French “musical collective” is what Wiki calls them. The ‘new wave’. Quaint. And I love her voice. Mélanie Pain. She makes the song. Charming.

I found them on The Jukebox At The End of The Universe. The happy place for me on Facebook these days.

A sort of a wake up gift from NKV the invite was. Something that got me back to music after a very, very long break from it. And something that made me realize that musical tastes are not about impressing people. Neither is it about being judged. It’s strictly about sharing, with or without piracy.

And it is something that got me back to hoarding videos and music and more importantly listening to it, as opposed to having it play in the background with me juggling between a million things. Though I do admit that pretending that life has a soundtrack that plays along is pretty cool. Brings back playlists that defined memories, people and ideas.

Getting back to writing about music is proving to be creaky. I’ll just leave the lyrics behind. In case someone wants to hum along.

Lyrics to Dance With Me

Mélanie Pain

Let’s dance little stranger
Show me secret sins
Love can be like bondage
Seduce me once again

Burning like an angel
Who has heaven in reprieve
Burning like the voodoo man
With devils on his sleeve

Won’t you dance with me
In my world of fantasy
Won’t you dance with me
Ritual fertility

Like an apparition
You don’t seem real at all
Like a premonition
Of curses on my soul

The way I want to love you
Well it could be against the law
I’ve seen you in a thousand minds
You’ve made the angels fall

Won’t you dance with me
In my world of fantasy
Won’t you dance with me
Ritual fertility

Come on little stranger
There’s only one last dance
Soon the music’s over
Let’s give it one more chance

Won’t you dance with me
In my world of fantasy
Won’t you dance with me
Ritual fertility

Take a chance with me
In my world of fantasy
Won’t you dance with me
Ritual fertility
